Diving & Snorkeling

We run snorkeling trips with local guides daily where you can explore the underwater world from the surface. Or just dip into the water right in front of the resort for some of the best snorkeling on the island. Expect to see many brightly colored tropical fish and an array of beautiful coral.
Koh Lipe being part of Taratao National Marine Park offers some of the best dive and snorkeling sites in Thailand. Whether it is fun diving or dive training Serendipity recommends Castaway Divers.

Island Hopping
Visits to the surrounding islands within the Adang Archipelago to explore the deserted beaches and snorkel in crystal blue waters before relaxing on the beach to enjoy a BBQ lunch, Chau Lay style. Watch out for the monkeys swinging in the towering trees above who also like to enjoy BBQ lunches!

Snorkeling / Island Hopping Day Trips
During your stay why not charter a long tail boat and visit some of the great snorkel sites within the National Park? You can see a huge variety of underwater life just a few feet below the surface, there are hundreds of different species of reef fish, pelagic, crustaceans and some beautiful soft and hard corals to see.

We can arrange private or group excursions to visit the near or far islands. The local boat captains are experienced and know just where to find the underwater treasures of the marine park.

A Typical* near island trip would be as follows:

10.00 a.m. – Depart from the beach right in front of Serendipity Resort’

10.40 a.m. – your first dip into the water at Jabang pinnacle, this is a submerged rock formation that rises up from the ocean floor to a peak 3 meters below the surface. Don’t worry, there is a buoyed line that goes right around the site so that you can hang on if there is a current and not worry about drifting off to Malaysia..!

11.20 a.m. – Back in the boat for a short trip to Koh Hin Ngam (beautiful rock or the black pebble island) some strange twist of nature has formed this unique island and given it a beach completely made of beautiful marbled black smooth pebbles, most all other islands in the Butang group have white powder sand ! beware don’t be tempted to take a pebble as a souvenir, the locals say you will be cursed with bad luck for 7 years if you do…! You can snorkel here or sit on the beach and make a pebble totem and make a wish !

12.00 – Back on the boat to visit Rawi Island, one otf the biggest islands in the group with some great snorkeling to be had from the beach. Here you can chill out on the beach and eat you packed lunch before visiting another 2 or 3 recommended snorkel spots on the way back to Lipe.

3.00 p.m. – 4.00 p.m. – Back to Serendipity to chill out with a cool drink and look through the fish slates to identify the many creatures you will have seen.

* Itinerary will vary subject to the weather and prevailing tides.

Typical far Island Trip :

10.00 a.m. – Depart from the beach right in front of Serendipity Resort,

11.15 a.m. – Visit Koh Lugoi’s beautiful little beach and take a short trail into the middle of the island. In the high season an enterprising local sets up a very rustic driftwood “bar” where you can get a cold coke or beer !

12.00 a.m. – Back in the boat for a short trip to “Monkey beach” on Koh Tong with some great snorkeling to be had from the beach. Here you can chill out on the beach and eat you packed lunch but don’t share it with the sometimes cheeky monkeys..!

1.30 p.m. – 3.30 p.m. – back on the boat to visit some more of the outlying islands such as Koh Hin Sorn or Kow Sawang where you can snorkel from the boat or beach to discover more sealife.

4.30 – 5.00p.m. – Back to Serendipity to chill out with a cool drink and look through the fish slates to identify the many creatures you will have seen.

Cost of the trips :

Near Islands (as described above) 1,800 THB  for 2 persons including life jacket and snorkeling equipment.

Far Islands – (a little further to go i.e. 1 hour 15 mins before you get in the water but usually fewer snorkelers in the area) 2,800 THB for 2 persons including life jacket and snorkeling equipment.

Snorkeling from the beach in front of the resort is also great and there is plenty to see. If you feeling adventurous snorkel out to the little island in front of the resort Koh Usen where you can occasionally see our small friendly reef sharks.

Beginners

If you have never tried snorkeling before and are a little nervous let us know and we can arrange a guide to accompany you on your trip who will show you the basics, such as mask and snorkel clearing or even basic “duck diving” where you take a breath and go completely submerged to join the fish below..! There is an additional charge of a 1000 THB per trip (not per person). Your guide will also point out some of the more unusual undersea flora and fauna that can be seen.
